The Philippines lies in the tropics between 4º 40' and 21º 10' N latitude. The average temperature in Manila ranges from 24º C in winter to 28º C in summer. The monsoons - through warm, moist south-western winds that bring incessant rains - last from June through October. Highland areas such as Baguio near Manila can have very pleasant temperature throughout the year averaging 8º C. Sea waves, such as Cloud 9, Tuason Point, Majestic, and Cemento, in the sea surrounding the Philippines make it a surfer's paradise. The best time to visit is from September to April.

The first sign of Christianity in the Phillipines, a cross made by Magellan when he set foot in Cebu City centuries ago, is a major tourist attraction to this day.

Banaue still retains the spectacular rice terraces culled by Ifugao tribes, dating back to the 1^st century BC.
